Buying a Luxury Watch in Aruba: Rolex, Cartier, Breitling and More
Buying a luxury watch in Aruba is the purchase where the island’s “duty-free” reputation is most misunderstood. Swiss brands set their retail prices, and authorised dealers here sell at essentially the same list price as in the US. So why do people buy watches in Aruba? Sales tax, stock, and the fact that a quiet Caribbean boutique gives you the manager’s time in a way a big-city flagship does not.

Who sells what (verified against the brands’ own store locators)
- Rolex and Cartier: one Official Rolex Jeweler in downtown Oranjestad, listed on the Rolex store locator, with a Cartier boutique beside it.
- Breitling, Omega and Chopard: branded boutiques in downtown Oranjestad.
- TAG Heuer, TUDOR, Jaeger-LeCoultre and Movado: a multi-brand official dealer with stores in Oranjestad and Palm Beach.
- Hublot: one official point of sale on L.G. Smith Boulevard.
- Piaget, IWC, Panerai and others: a multi-brand dealer with stores in Oranjestad and Palm Beach.
- Longines, Tissot, Hamilton, Oris, Frederique Constant and pre-owned: several independent jewelers in Oranjestad and Palm Beach.
Only buy from a dealer listed on the brand’s website. That is what makes the international warranty valid. For pre-owned pieces, ask for the service history and papers instead.
What you save when buying a luxury watch in Aruba
You save your home sales tax (in the US, typically 6 to 10%) plus any discount the dealer is willing to give. On non-allocated models, that discount is often a few percent more than you would get at home. Then subtract US customs on the way back: an $800 exemption, 3% on the next $1,000, and normal rates above. On a $10,000 watch, a New Yorker might net a saving of several hundred dollars, and a Floridian a little less. In short, it is real, not dramatic.
The Rolex question
Steel sports models such as the Submariner, GMT-Master II and Daytona are allocated worldwide, and Aruba is no exception. Walking in and asking rarely works anywhere. What an appointment does is put you in a proper conversation with the dealer about what you want and what is realistic, sometimes with an alternative in the case that day. Precious-metal models, Datejusts and Oyster Perpetuals are far more likely to be available. Be candid with us, and we will be candid with you.
Pre-owned
A few downtown stores sell pre-owned luxury watches. Ask for box, papers and service history. Then compare with reputable online pre-owned prices before deciding, because there is no automatic bargain.
Before you pay
- Confirm the dealer is authorised for that brand.
- Check that the warranty card is completed with the dealer stamp, date and serial.
- Ask whether the price includes the 7% turnover tax.
- Keep the receipt and card together for customs.
Our luxury watches page lists the dealers with the brands each one states on its own website.
